So here there I was, third stint in hospital and this time I was missing half a leg... What am I supposed to do now? I knew life was never going to be the same again but I didn't know what that meant. The day they told me I could have a shower, I felt that I had won the lottery... after a week of bed washes and bed pans a shower sounded like heaven on earth... The gave me a bag to cover my bandages and I was on my way... Except my first shower was also my first fall. I miss judged transferring to the shower chair and when I started to fall, I forgot that I was missing my leg, luckily, I was able to get my back to the wall and slid down so it could have been much worse. I layed there for a few minutes debating on what to do next... do I push the button and get a nurse to help or do I try and get myself up... I decided to try and do it myself... I didn't need another nurse to see me naked!!! I got myself back in my wheelchair and successfully transferred into the shower chair... even with the fall, that was the best shower ever!!!
I spent my days in a general routine. Breakfast at 8, Lunch at 12, Dinner at 5. Mornings were shower after breakfast... See the doctors and co on their rounds then I would hang out in the garden till lunch. After lunch, Dad would visit and I would send him on his way after a couple of hours... (after a visit to the cafe on level 5) At this time, I got addicted to the chase... UK format not AUS.
After about three weeks I was told I was on the waiting list for rehab... I got transferred to a different ward until the transfer and turned out to the be the geriatric/rehabilitation ward... I was the youngest patient by about 40 years!!!! After the 1st night, they moved me to the private room they had - YAY!!!! After a week, a bed was available for me at Modbury Hospital Rehab Ward and the net stage of my recovery was before me
